The Ice Crystals Replicas were two 5ml free samples that, as their name implies, had to mimic the look of their larger brethren, yet with less engineering room and at a lower cost.
For the Oil Replica, this meant substituting the glass inner bottle and dropper for PCTG plastic.
The Cream Replica was unique in that the inner jar has a 360-degree leg/wall that runs the entire height of the jar. This leg was then metallized, allowing us to achieve the same effect as the Regular Business jar without the use of silver paper.
As the Oil and Cream are to be used together, we were commissioned to make an Ice Crystal Box that combined the two packages for both the Regular Business and replica size. We did not want to replicate shard pattern as we felt it would be repetitive for the line and lose the aesthetic when blown up to the large, square shape of the box, as evidenced in the first photo. Instead, we went after the idea of products being trapped in a block of ice.
Inspired by pattern of frost seen on windows in winter, we had an artist hand draw a line pattern to mimic the crosshatches, triangles, and other shapes that are characteristic of frosted windows. I printed out copies of the illustration on transparencies and chose what sections of the pattern would go where on each side of both Small and Large Box. After looking into several plastics and frost levels, we used electrical discharge machining (EDM) to get the fine lines into the mold. We then injection molded the boxes at extremely high-pressure settings to achieve all the fine details. Lastly, we raised the La Prairie logo and silver stamped it for that luxurious final touch.
The Cellular Power Charge Night (CPCN) Replica was a redesign of the sample size for the Cellular Power Charge Night 50ml.
What is unique about the CPCN product is that it dispenses two different formulations simultaenously (one blue, one white).
Initially, the sample size was a tube-within-a-tube that released both products when pressed in a marked location. However, problems with simultaneous dispensing from the tube forced a re-design.
Shown here is redesign of the package -- a true Replica of the Main item down to its racetrack shape, actuator, and its ability to dispense both products at the same time, every time.
The ancient alchemical symbol given to platinum features a sun (with a dot in its center) and a crescent moon side-by-side.
To bring this metaphor to La Prairie's precious Platinum Collection, years ago, a spatula was developed featuring the sun and the moon together.
To continue this tradition for the recently launched Cellular Eye Essence Platinum Rare, we developed an applicator wand featuring this golden sun and silver moon. To continue the decades-old theme of luxury and richness that La Prairie evokes, we added a jewel in the center of the sun. Lastly, to maintain the relationship between the wand and the product it launched with, a stainless steel ball (similar to the metal ball at the end of the Eye Essence dropper) was set into the wand.
These elements came together to form this beautiful, luxurious applicator wand that we shipped to locations across the world where customers could use it in-store to test the Eye Essence product.
